W3: How the Food and Beverage Industry is Adapting to Modern Demands?
How the Food and Beverage Industry is Adapting to Modern Demands?
Note. ETprotein.com, 2024 Aug 8, (https://www.etprotein.com/a-glimpse-into-the-future-trends-in-food-and-beverage-marketing/).Chosen Domain: Food and beverage industry
Present Situation:
Currently, the the food and beverage industry is experiencing a significant growth. This is due to the customer demands for convenience, health-conscious options and sustainability. The food industry is improving the meals and drinks which could provide health advantages beyond simple nutrition (Glion, n.d.). Furthermore, as people's interest in various kinds of culinary grows, global flavors and fusion cuisine are becoming more popular (Cherenkov, 2024). However, the food prices nowadays have increased drastically due to global inflation, causing the businesses have to balance the pricing with customer retention. Besides, the industry is also prioritizing efforts to reduce food waste and use eco-friendly packaging. Labor shortage in food and beverage industry is also a major challenge to continue the operations.
Future Vision:
In the future, the food and beverage industry would integrate with technologies to serve better food and drinks. The industry would be focusing on sustainability while improving functional foods with added health benefits. At the same time, there would be a variety of creative combination of ingredients and cooking techniques as people keep on exploring the global flavors and fusion cuisine. Moreover, personalized nutrition based on individual's body requirements would be achieved thanks to the advances of technology and data analytics. Other than that, the industry would also be organizing unique and engaging consumer experience for dinners by implementing augmented reality into the menus and interacting dining experiences.
Creative Solutions:
1. Using automation and robotics in the industry
With the advancements of modern technology, food and beverage industry would be using automation and robotics in taking orders, food preparation, delivery and etc. This could address labor shortage and improve the efficiency in food serving operations. Further, people can use 3D-printing technique to 3D-print customized food with desired textures and shapes. Smart packaging could also be considered by using new technology to monitor the freshness of food and preserve the food naturally. This could help reducing the waste produced and also maintaining the freshness of food at its best.

2. Focus on sustainability
Sustainable practices should be conducted to minimize environmental issues such as food waste and ocean plastic pollution. Consumers should reevaluate the foods they consume while some companies should replace unsustainable methods with environmentally friendly ones. On top of that, blockchain technology is suggested to track the origin and journey of the food products. This can increase the transparency of the food production operation, and also get to build consumer trust as it ensures the food safety.
3. Health and wellness focus
As people are wishing for a healthier well-being, they should take in healthy meals. Although cultivating the habit of eating healthy is helping, it is better if the nutrition of the food could be further improved to provide additional health benefits. Beside that, personalized nutrition based on individual could be achieved by using AI.
Justification and Implementation:
1. Using automation and robotics in the industry
Robotics are consistent in operating system. Having said that, integrating robotics and automation into food preparation could avoid inconsistent of the taste of the food caused by human error. This could boost the implementation of virtual restaurant or ghost kitchen where the restaurant only need a small workforce to work. There is no need for cashiers, waiters, hosts and etc. Consumers just need to place their order online and food would be delivery to them in short time (Hamel, n.d.). In addition, implementing augmented reality menus could give interacting dining experiences to the consumer before ordering them. Marketing teams could also use this technique to advertise and market their food products. These implementations required financial investment in researching and developing new technologies, engineers and technicians to design, install and maintain the automation systems, and software developers in controlling the robots and automation processes.

2. Focus on sustainability
According to Davison (2024), takeaway food and drink containers are the main source of plastic pollution in the ocean, and the food industry contributes significantly to the world's plastic waste problem. Therefore, food companies should develop zero-waste restaurants and plastic-free packaging solutions. Companies should invest in researching alternative packaging materials such as biodegradable or edible packaging that can decompose naturally. This can reduce plastic waste and environmental pollution. Apart from that, supplier can optimize supply chain practices by conducting regular audits to identify the sources of the emissions and provide a more comprehensive picture of how to reduce expenses and save energy. Besides, companies should resize the packaging to cut down on waste and shipping space. Resources required in this solution are invest in R&D to develop new sustainable technologies and practices, collaboration with suppliers and training on employees on practicing sustainable practices.
3. Health and wellness focus
Functional foods with added health benefits like boosting immune system could be developed through R&D to improve the functions of food. For instance, probiotics could be added into our food perhaps, to maintain the general wellness of an individual. By doing this, there is no need for people to take in several multiple supplements as the benefits have already added into their food. Moreover, AI and machine learning should be utilized to develop customized meal plans according to each person's preferences and health statistics. People with illness could control their food intake effectively to avoid worsening or relapsing of illness condition. Hence, to develop functional ingredients, companies should invest and collaborate with research institutions to conduct R&D and clinical tests. AI and machine learning experts should develop algorithms for personalized nutrition recommendations.
