Space Exploration & Tourism: Let's Go!!
Domain: Space exploration and tourism
Present Situation
The field of space travel and exploration is still in its beginning stages, with a few remarkable breakthroughs and several kinds of difficulties. Government organizations like NASA, ESA, and Roscosmos have historically been in charge of space travel, with a primary focus on scientific exploration and research. Private businesses like SpaceX, Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin have recently joined the industry with the goal of lowering the barrier to entry for the general public. However, space travel faces many challenges such as the high expense of space missions, the public's limited access to space travel, and the requirement for significant technological developments to ensure sustainability and safety. Additionally, there are critical problems that require consideration like the impact of rocket launches on the environment and space debris.
Future Vision
In thirty to forty years, travel and space exploration are essential components of the human experience. In an ideal world, everyone would be able to go to space safely and affordably. With experiences ranging from rapid suborbital flights to lengthy stays in space hotels and even lunar and Mars colonies, space tourism has grown into a booming industry. Thanks to technology advancements and scale of economies, space tourism is now more accessible and affordable than it has ever been. Moreover, there would be more advanced safety precautions to protect passengers and crew. Meanwhile, sustainable techniques such as using eco-friendly fuels and reusable spacecraft reduce the negative effects on the environment. Besides, space hotels that orbit the Earth and colonies on the Moon and Mars are available for tourism, whereas educational programs that combine adventure and lessons encourage visitors to learn about space exploration and science.
Creative Solutions
(i) Development of Reusable Spacecraft
The cost of space travel is significantly reduced using reusable spacecraft. Spacecraft companies should highly invest in researching to make reusable spacecraft. These spacecraft will enable frequent and economical journeys, lowering the cost and improving the sustainability of space travel. Furthermore, spacecraft companies could also implement "Spaceline" model which is similar to airlines. They could have regular scheduled flights and economy class options just like the aviation industry but it was on the space.
(ii) Eco-friendly Rocket Fuels
By development eco-friendly rocket fuels, environmental concerns get to be addressed. Companies should cooperate to develop rocket fuels that can be acceptable by the environment and the space. Important processes include testing, regulatory approvals, and research & development should be conducted carefully by researchers. As a result, a greener space travel will be promoted and the environmental impact of rocket launches will be reduced by using sustainable fuels.
(iii) Creation of Space Habitats
If space exploration and travel were succeed, it is best that space habitats should be built for the tourists to stay to enhance the travelling experiences. For example, constructing space hotels and settlements on Mars and the Moon creates unusual travel destinations. People can try to play sports or recreation on the planets as they have lower gravity than earth. It would be a very different experience for them. Even if you did not choose to travel to moon or Mars, orbit around the earth could also be a great travelling experience. Building space habitats involves planning, the use of cutting-edge building materials, and collaborations with space agencies. Obviously, space habitats will expand tourism options and inspire future generations of space explorers.
Justification and Implementation
(i) Development of Reusable Spacecraft
The huge expense of developing and launching new spacecraft for every trip is one of the primary obstacles to affordable space travel. Apparently, the cost of space travel should become affordable if reusable spacecraft was used as the cost for keep on building non-reusable spacecrafts is eliminated. Also, the waste produced when crafting spacecrafts would be reduced, avoiding unnecessary environmental issues. To implement the development of reusable spacecraft, research should be invested to create reusable spacecraft using advanced technologies and materials. Besides, comprehensive testing should be carried out to ensure the safety and reliability of reusable spacecraft. Government agencies and private companies should collaborate to exchange resources and knowledge to speed up the development of reusable spacecraft. Lastly, reasonable priced space travel package should be offered to the public by launching commercial reusable spacecraft services. Some resources required are funding for research and development, aerospace engineers and scientists, government agencies and private companies.
(ii) Eco-friendly Rocket Fuels
Launching rockets affect the environment because it causes greenhouse gas emissions and space debris. Developing environmentally friendly rocket fuels could reduce these effects and encourage sustainable space exploration. Spacecraft companies should investigate alternative fuels including hydrogen and biofuels. The results should undergo several testing to ensure the effectiveness and safety of environmentally friendly fuels. Funding for fuel research and development, environmental scientists and engineers are required to implement the development of eco-friendly rocket fuels.
(iii) Creation of Space Habitats
By providing unique and exhilarating holiday locations, space hotels and colonies on the Moon and Mars would increase the attraction of space travel and motivate future generations of space travelers. To kick start the development process, comprehensive plans and designs for space habitats should be developed first while taking comfort, safety, and sustainability into account. After that, use innovative materials and technologies to construct space habitats in collaboration with construction firms and space organizations. Other than that, operational management should create guidelines for the maintenance and operation of space habitats, including emergency measures and life support systems. Lastly, marketing teams should promote the educational and experiential advantages of space habitats as distinctive holiday spots to the public.
